Today we
were leaving our van in Mareeba and driving to Cooktown. We enjoyed the beautiful forest of the
Daintree as we made our way along the winding road to Cape Tribulation. We
crossed the Daintree River on the ferry and stopped at Cape Tribulation for
coffee. From here we then drove along the 4 wheel Drive only, Bloomfield Track.
The road was not too bad with 5 river crossings with water in them and many
more that were dry. We called in to Wujal Wajal to view the Bloomfield Falls
which were quite impressive. Continuing on we had decided to stop at a pub that
is very famous up this way, The Lion’s Den, for lunch. We enjoyed this
experience and the food was pretty good considering where we were. Following
lunch, it didn’t take us too long before we arrived at Cooktown and settled in
to our unit. We spent the rest of the day exploring the town and its nearby
surrounds. Of course there were many plaques dedicated to Captain Cook who
called in here in 1770 to repair the Endeavour after it ran aground on the
Barrier Reef.
