With much
improved weather today, we decided to visit the North Coast Regional Botanic
Gardens for a wander. It was very enjoyable a highlight was watching 3 very
large eels ruling over the pond. Birds were very scared to land in the water as
the eels would chase them away. Luckily a beautiful bearded dragon lounging
near the pond was not concerned by all the carry on. Our next stop was to check
out the main shopping area of Coffs Harbour. Imagine my horror and Rob’s joy to
discover as we arrived at 12:15pm that the shops, banks and businesses were all
closing up. It was Coffs Harbour Cup day at the races and everyone was having a
half day holiday. It appeared that most schools had closed for the whole day
too. Rob was starting to worry that maybe the seafood place on the marina, we
had decided to go to for lunch may have been closed but luckily this was not
the case. We decided to go the whole hog and order a seafood platter for two.
When it came we couldn’t believe our eyes. There was just so much delicious
seafood and there was no way we would have been able to eat it. We decided
straight away to save the cold seafood (bugs, oysters, smoked salmon and prawns
with salads) for dinner and put it in the engel. The hot platter was delicious
and we still were unable to eat all of it! After lunch we headed north to the
little beachside town of Woolgoolga, visiting the Art and Craft gallery as well
as enjoying more magnificent coastal views. We finished the day with a
beautiful walk to the beach and coast area of Moonee Beach a few hundred metres
from where we are staying.
