The rain
returned during the evening and continued on and off all night. We woke to a
pretty soggy caravan park but the rain had stopped so we were able to pack up
without getting wet. We headed south as we had decided that we wanted to take
the van on the Waterfall Way from Coffs Harbour across the Dividing Range to
Armidale. We had already visited quite a
few of the waterfalls on our day trip on Wednesday but wanted to visit a couple
further west. We made reasonable time driving through the mountains and the
first of the waterfalls we stopped at was Ebor Falls, a spectacular double
waterfall that had quite a lot of water running over it. As we approached these
falls we noticed how much the vegetation had changed and that this area had received
none of the rain we had had in the previous days. From here we drove onto the 2nd
tallest falls in Australia, Wollomombi Falls. We had been chatting to another
couple at Ebor Falls and they had said that there was no water going over these
falls but the gorges and views were spectacular. True to their words the gorges
were just amazing and we enjoyed quite a strenuous walk to visit a few of the
lookout areas to view the Wollomombi and Chandler Falls. We stopped here for
lunch and then drove on to Armidale where we will be spending the next 2
nights. Everything looked so dry out this way and we weren’t surprised to learn
that this area is on Level 4 water-restrictions.
