Today we
drove from Mission Beach, through the impressive scenery of the mountains and
on to the Atherton Tablelands. We loved this area last time we visited and we
are looking forward to more exploring. As we passed through the small town of
Tolga we couldn’t believe our eyes when we saw that the famous Tolga Wood
gallery was now a Salvation Army store. Well at least it probably saved us a
few dollars as this gallery had some beautiful pieces of work last time we
visited. Later we spoke to a lovely couple that were volunteer guides at the
Mareeba Tourist Information Centre and were friends of the artists that owned
the gallery and they explained that the husband and wife team had decided to
retire and were really enjoying their new life. We set up at the Mareeba
Country Caravan Park, a very secluded and pretty park, before heading into town
to visit the Information Centre to do some planning for the next week.
