Day 12 Tuesday 23rd July, Watagans and Catalinas

We were greeted with a lovely warm day and so we decided to drive into the Watagan Mountains to do a little off road driving and some walking. The vehicle was fine on the rough tracks but Rob had to stop and take some air out of the air-bags. We found a beautiful walk in the forest that took us to a huge mossy rock over 100metres long. From here we drove to a nearby small town, stopping for lunch before heading to another lovely little town located on the lake called Wangi Wangi. Continuing on, it was a short drive to Rathmines. This was a very interesting town. It was the site of the largest RAAF flying boat base in the Southern Hemisphere during WW2. Many of the old buildings are still standing and the recreation areas are still being used by the town. There was a beautiful, peaceful memorial honouring the flying boat personnel who flew from this base.
PS A couple of special photos for Pat!!!
