It didn’t
take us long to do the 61 kms from Rolleston to our accommodation, The Takarakka
Bush Resort at Carnarvon Gorge. We arrived around 10.30am and set up in what is
a beautiful place with palms, creeks, grassed areas and a great meals, bar,
deck, shop and reception area. After a coffee we drove to the Visitor
Information Centre to find out more about the walks we could go on and the
history of the area both geologically and historically. It also gave us great
information about the fauna and flora of this area. The area impressed us with
towering sandstone cliffs rising up from the plains that we had driven across
on our way in from Rolleston. We did a short Nature trail through the bush
before returning to our van for lunch and to work out which other walks we
thought we’d be able to complete. We decided to do a few of the smaller walks
in the afternoon and we thoroughly enjoyed these. Tomorrow we will tackle a
much longer walk that takes us into the heart of Carnarvon Gorge and will take
us about 5 hours…..so if there is no blog tomorrow, you’ll know we got lost! We’ve
also booked in to do a helicopter flight over the Gorge on Friday morning and
it just happens to be Friday the 13th! Once again if there is no
blog for Friday, you know what’s happened! When we returned to our caravan in
the late afternoon, I went off to the platypus viewing area but didn’t see any
platypuses only an inquisitive echidna.
