We had a
long driving day as we start to head south and make our way back to Adelaide.
Leaving Cobbold Gorge fairly early, we decided to stop at the Forsyth Hotel/Motel/General
Store/Post Office/Café for a coffee. This store is owned by the same people who
own The Cobbold Gorge Village and has apparently revived the tiny little town. We
chatted to the young man who served us about technology etc as Rob tapped his
phone to pay for coffee. He explained that he had been working there for 2
months and would soon be moving on. We asked where he was originally from and
he said Adelaide. We said we were from Adelaide too and then he asked which
suburb. He then said he was from Taperoo and had attended Taperoo Primary
School and then Taperoo High School. Although he seemed quite young to us Rob
worked out that he was quite possibly at Taperoo Primary School when he was
teaching there. The young man was saying how he regularly returns to Adelaide
and loves, Henley Beach, Grange and Semaphore Road. He thought that Pt Adelaide
will soon become trendy too! Anyway continued on and arrived safely at Charters
Towers late in the afternoon. We set up and quickly went out to do some
shopping. Back at the park, just as the sun was setting, hundreds and hundreds
of bats flew over us and created quite a spectacle.
