Unfortunately
when we left Charters Towers this morning, the wind was really up and the sky
was full of dust and smoke. Although we are along way north of the bushfires we
thought some of the visibilities issues today could have been smoke from the
fires. We also felt sorry for the poor
farmers as their top soil was blown in to the sky. Charters Towers was on water restrictions as
it has been for several years due to continued drought. We arrived at Theresa
Creek Dam Campground for a late lunch and the wind of the morning had dropped off
completely. We booked in for 2 nights as it is a pretty special place. We found
a good spot close to the water and later in the afternoon I took the kayak out
to do some exploring. I kayaked to the dam wall and then went observing bird
life and admiring the waterlilies. I also saw many cattle standing in the
shallow water and munching away on the waterlilies. There are quite a few
groups camped here but we are spread out over a large area with facilities
spaced out around the different camp areas. We have to use our own power and
water, though.
